From the Amazon web site:
At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone. Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.
Editor's note: I loved Wild. It's a great read about a 22 year old woman who has lost her way after her mother's death, using heroin, involved in promiscuous sex, having abortions, and deteriorating rapidly into a hell of heartache and pain. She gets the notion to hike the Pacific Crest Trail in the West similar to the Appalachian Trail in the East. She subjects herself to the fears and physically grueling ordeal and in the process comes to terms with her grief and fears, and finds herself.
Wild is a marvelous memoir of self redemption in which a young woman faces her demons and triumphs. I highly recommend it.
Wild is available at the Lift Bridge Book Shop in downtown Brockport or through The Brockporter Amazon book carousel in the right hand column. The paperback edition will be released on March 26th.
