Rah Rah Dave we all know you have a bias for DWI arrests. Beat a real drum of news. 

I do have a bias for DWI arrests for very good reasons. My two children were killed by a three time drunk driver in 1993. In the 12 years between 1998 and 2010 there were 240 people killed in alcohol related crashes in Monroe County. Supposing there were a Newtown or Columbine massacre in Monroe County that killed 240 people? Would there then be people "beating a real drum of news"?

Over 11,000 Americans are killed every year in the United States in drunk driving crashes.

In 2011, 362 people were killed in alcohol related crashes in New York State and an additional 6,121 people were injured. I believe that this is news.

DWI watch - Brockport police keeping us safe

February 24^th, 2013

A 26 year old Hamlin NY man was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, Third Degree Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (both Misdemeanors), as well as other traffic-related offenses. He is due in Sweden Town Court.

January 26^th, 2013:

Bonifacio Sanchez, 41 years old, of Brockport NY, was arrested for Misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated, as well as other traffic-related offenses. Sanchez is due to appear in Sweden Town Court. 

Brockport Police keep our Village streets safe removing intoxicated drivers. If you see a Brockport Police officer give him/her your thanks for the great job they do.

DWI watch - 14 DWI arrests in the fourth quarter

According to Brockport Police Chief Daniel Varrenti's quarterly report for the fourth quarter of 2012, the Brockport Police Department out of 365 vehicle and traffic arrests, 13 were for DWI and 1 was for driving with ability impaired on drugs.

DWI Watch - Dr. Divito gets 5 - 15 in prison for killing two

From D & C 01/09/13:

Minutes before he was sentenced Wednesday to five to 15 years in prison for killing a couple in a high-speed crash in Hamlin in 2011, a local chiropractor apologized to the couple’s family.

“Words cannot express how truly sorry I am,” said Stephen Divito, 40, of Penfield. “I’m haunted by what I did.”

Divito pleaded guilty in October to first-degree vehicular manslaughter, second-degree vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an injury that resulted in a death, all felonies, and driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

State Supreme Court Justice Joanne Winslow handed down the sentence, which includes five years of post-release supervision. Divito’s license will be revoked during that time, and he also will need to install an ignition interlock device in his car.

On Nov. 5, 2011, Divito caused a crash that killed Patricia Trabold-DePinto, 57, and James DePinto, 61. He drove into the couple’s car on the Lake Ontario State Parkway, near Route 259, then sped away from the scene about 4 p.m., according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

DWI watch - another arrest in Brockport

On December 22, 2012, the Brockport Police report arresting a 49 year old man for driving while intoxicated in Brockport. This brings the number of DWI arrests in the Village of Brockport in 2012 to approximately 41.

In 2011, Brockport Police arrested 54 offenders for driving while intoxicated on Village streets.

In 2010, Brockport Police arrested 47 people for drunk driving.

There were 3,018 DWI arrests in Monroe County in 2010.

In 2010 there were 20 DWI fatalities in Monroe County almost as many people as killed in Newtown with guns.

Over half of the 20 DWI fatalities occurred  to people between the ages of 25 and 44.

For every DWI arrest Brockport Police make, deaths, injuries, and property damage has been prevented. How much is your life or the life of a loved one worth?
