The King Street Stories - Mayor proposes dissolution again, Judge abruptly resigns, Superbowl provides excuse to indulge, and Greg Brown's prayers go unanswered

It’s been quite a week on King Street. The students are back and classes have started for the Spring semester. The foot and car traffic has doubled and tripled on King Street especially on the warm January days when the temperature goes over 50.
Some of us are still grieving the death of former mayor, Jim Stull. He was a good man and is missed especially as Mayor Castaneda again proposes to get a grant for a study to determine the feasibility of dissolving the village. The woman seems to have a one track mind and will finish her service in Village politics singing this same swan song she has been singing for years. If the mayor didn’t have legal difficulties still pending in Ogden Town Court perhaps with Judge Coapman’s resignation Supervisor Connors would make Connie a Judge.
The Ravens and the 49ers are in the Superbowl and the invitations to super bowl parties have been flying up and down the street. The Superbowl provides another excuse to over indulge in an attempt to chase the mid winter blues away. The Superbowl has become a major entertainment event, almost a holiday, in the United States given to excess and exceedingly entertaining marketing attempts to sell stuff to giddy viewers.
As Brockporters prepare to pay their taxes, significantly increased with the new fire district tax, Trustee Blair is reported in the minutes of the Village Board meeting to be wondering if he got lied to by Clarkson Supervisor Kimball about the possibility of Clarkson joining the Hamlin Fire District if Brockport didn’t turn over its millions of dollars in assets to the proposed Brockport Fire District. It may be that Trustee Blair and others will go to their graves wondering if they did the right thing for Brockport taxpayers in agreeing to participate in the creation of a whole new layer of government with the autocratic power to tax its citizens anything they like with no check and balance. Observers might wonder why, after the horse has left the barn, Trustee Blair now is wondering? Having to open up your check books and write a check does give one pause and makes one wonder.
It has dawned on people that the Village of Brockport election cycle is entering its pre-campaign phase as the elections for the 2013 – 2017 terms are held in June. The office of Mayor and two trustees are open. Rhett King, the leader of the dissolutionists, has been suggested as a Mayoral candidate. Some say, Margay Blackman has her eye on the position, and other people are considering what it would be like to be mayor of Brockport or a trustee.
Coleen’s café has re-furbished and is re-opened not only with a change in décor including new booths instead of tables, but also with a more cheerful service delivery.
Greg Brown, a self described born again Christian, complained this week that God was not answering his prayers and was stunned when his pastor told him that God was not ignoring him, God was saying “no”. Greg said this interpretation of events has lead to his losing his belief in God. “I just don’t understand a God who won’t give me what I want. I am not feeling loved, ya know? Who needs that?"
And that’s the way its been this week on King Street where the men’s testosterone levels are rising in anticipation of Superbowl Sunday, all the women are imagining future political careers on the Village Board, and all the children want pancakes at Coleen’s café.
