Some Brockporters disappointed that world goes on

Brockport, NY - Some Brockporters are disappointed today that the end of the world didn't occur as predicted on December 21, 2012, and unfortunately they will have to go on living their lives and watch other people live theirs.
"This sucks!, said Mike, "They told us the end of the world was coming. They lied to us. I even saw the movie and read some blog articles on the internets and the world was supposed to be finished yesterday. What am I going to do now?"
The pastor of New Times Church of Jesus our Lord said "I wasn't sure if the Mayan calendar foretold the Second Coming or it was just a pagan belief. Looks like the Mayan prediction was not the Apocalypse, the Second Coming. Some people in our church will be disappointed even though I counseled people to keep an open mind."
Becky, a preppie, has her year's supply of food and toilet paper and enough guns and ammunition to fight a war, and she says, "Even though it didn't happen doesn't mean its not going to happen and when it does I'm prepared. When it comes, my family and I will be safe for a while but other people will not be prepared and it will be dog eat dog and it will be like a war with neighbors fighting neighbors."
Some people in Brockport are worried about the level of hysteria and the escalating belief in myths borne out of people's fear. After Sandy Hook the level of anxiety and fear has risen to a new level and people are arming themselves thinking that guns will keep them safe. Bart said, "Getting guns increases the danger not lessens it. If you live by the gun, you will die by the gun. Remember that. Guns are not the answer. People are going to have to dig a little deeper and realize that the only safety is in our compassion and care for one another."
In this season of peace, joy, and brotherhood, there is an uneasy acceptance in Brockport that life will go on. What kind of a life remains to be seen. A minority of people continue to be optimistic and believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person, the free and responsible search for truth and meaning, the use of the democratic process, the goal of community with peace, liberty, and justice for all, and a respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we humans, are but one part. They are few and far between but a strong people of faith who may well provide the beacon of hope for those corrupted by fear.
